alpha-Conotoxin IMI

a-conotoxins IMI has been isolated from the venom of the cone snail Conus imperialis. a-conotoxins IMI act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them. This toxin blocks mammalian neuronal nAChRs (a-3/ß-2 > a-7 > a-3/ß-4). Has no effect on nAChRs composed of a-2/ß-2, a-3/ß-2, a-4/ß-2, a-2/ß-4, a-3/ß-4, or a-4/ß-4 subunits. a-conotoxins IMI acts voltage-independently. Is highly active against the neuromuscular receptor in frog.
