Asiaticoside – appealing for cosmetic and pharma

Research is focusing on its pharmacological properties: anti-depression, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor. Recently revealed activities are the protection of nerve cells, inhibition of apoptosis of neural cells and improvement of memory.

Sun et al showed the nerve protective effect of Asiaticoside in an ischemia-hypoxia cell model in vitro. Asiaticoside reduced the lactate dehydrogenase level and also could regulate the expression of apoptotic factors, like bcl-2, Bax and caspase-3. The authors suggest it will play a greater role in stroke treatment, with broad prospects for development.
