Phytochemicals - Information
PytochamicalsPytochamicals are substances occurring in plants. They help to reduce the risk of cancer, heart diseases, increased blood pressure and other illnesses. There are thousands of these plant substances. These agents are isolated from the plants to make use of them.

Digitoxin, a Stereoglycoside obtained from the foxglove "Digitalis purpurea" or Quercetin which is contained in apples and can protect brain cells from neurotoxicity are examples for this.

The Phytochemicals in apples protect the brain from damages which could cause neurodegenerative illnesses such as Alzheimer´s disease or Parkinson. These are just examples to illustrate the enormous potential of Phytochemicals for science and medicine.

Phytochemicals can be obtained in several ways, however, the technique one of our partners applies is especially mentionable.
The technology comprises several closely related processes which are described in the following:

A piece of tissue is separated from a plant or its seeds and undergoes a sterilisation process. After germination the callus emerges and makes it possible to grow plant tissue without a living host. As soon as the callus has stabilised the culture is stored. After several weeks further tissue cultures can be obtained by separating parts of the callus tissue and cultivating those separately. By adding Phytohormons the cells can differentiate and thus create a living plant shoot.
After the storage of the culture the next step is biosynthesis which guarantees a new natural chemical diversity as well as a reproducible supply. The components are separated in the now following cleaning process. Individual fraction banks with approx. 40 fractions per species are created. The processed fractions are coated, tested systematically ("screening") developed into new products and/or purified further. This technology of our partner offers a number of advantages not only compared to synthetic chemicals but also in comparison with traditional natural extracts.

Some examples:
They guarantee highest diversity, are easy to obtain, and provide a guaranteed reproducible supply (see above) as well as purest extracts and agents of the highest quality. Moreover the procedures are compatible to biological testing procedures and enable unlimited, eco-friendly production.
