α-conotoxins IMI has been isolated from the venom of the cone snail Conus imperialis. α-conotoxins IMI act on postsynaptic membranes, they bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) and thus inhibit them. This toxin blocks mammalian neuronal nAChRs (α-3/ß-2 > α-7 > α-3/ß-4). Has no effect on nAChRs composed of α-2/ß-2, α-3/ß-2, α-4/ß-2, α-2/ß-4, α-3/ß-4, or α-4/ß-4 subunits. α-conotoxins IMI acts voltage-independently. Is highly active against the neuromuscular receptor in frog.
