Sarafotoxin-A has been isolated from the venom of the Snaker Atractaspis engaddensis. This toxin presents a vasoconstrictor activity. This compound has a close structural homology to the endothelin family. Sarafotoxin-A causes cardiac arrest probably as a result of coronary vasospasm. LD50 is 0.015 mg/kg by intravenous injection for sarafotoxin-A.
