Sarcophine, a cembranoid from the Red Sea soft coral Sarcophyton glaucum, is an inhibitor of tumorigenesis. Sarcophine exhibits anti-tumor, chemo-preventive and antimicrobial activities. Sarcophine is a competitive cholinesterase inhibitor, noncompetitive phosphofructokinase inhibitor, and Na+, K+-ATPase inhibitor. Sarcophine is besides this a inhibitor of acetylcholine esterase and ATPase, Ichthyotoxi, Tumorigensis and JB6 cell transformation inhibitor.
