It plays a central role in human metabolism and is used as a pharmaceutical active ingredient.<\/p><p>Riboflavin is an essential vitamin found in milk, eggs, meat and green vegetables, for example. In the body, riboflavin is converted into the active form, i.e. riboflavin-5&#8242;-phosphate, by the enzyme riboflavin kinase.<\/p><p>The active form is a coenzyme for various oxidoreductases and is important for energy metabolism and cell regeneration.<\/p><p><strong>There are various medical applications for riboflavin-5&#8242;-phosphate.<\/strong><\/p><p>1. <strong>Ophthalmology<\/strong>: In ophthalmology, the active ingredient is used to treat corneal dystrophies and keratoconus. When combined with UV light, it can improve and strengthen the structure of the cornea.<\/p><p>2. <strong>Dermatology<\/strong>: Riboflavin-5&#8242;-phosphate has antioxidant properties and may be useful for conditions such as acne or rosacea. It generally supports skin regeneration.<\/p><p>3. <strong>Neurology<\/strong>: Riboflavin-5&#8242;-phosphate shows success in the treatment of migraines and mitochondrial diseases.
