Honokiol

Plant: isolated from the bark, seed cones and leaves of trees of the genus Magnolia.

• Source: Magnolia grandiflora (from the American South) and Magnolia dealbata (Mexican).
• Traditionally, Magnolia biondii, Magnolia obovata and Magnolia officinalis are commonly used in Asian medicine
• Can easily cross the blood-brain barrier and blood-cerebrospinal fluid
• Therefore, honokiol is a potentially effective therapy with high bioavailability
• Traditional medicine: bark or seed cones are commonly used in traditional medicine in China, Korea and Japan, magnolia bark is used as an analgesic and to treat anxiety and mood disorders
• The variety of interactions of honokiol make it a viable therapy for a number of diseases of the central nervous system, cardiovascular system and gastrointestinal system
