Metal Compounds

With a proportion of approx. 80% metals represent the largest group of the elements. They can easily be divided in light and heavy metals where aluminium (Al) and potassium (K) can be named as examples for the former and copper (Ku) and zinc (Zn) for the latter. Metals are e.g. of great importance for the galvanic industry as raw materials for various galvanic chemical coating systems (electrogalvanising, chrome plating, gilding etc.) Plating is the electrochemical separation of metallic precipitations (tarnish) on materials. There is a general distinction between functional plating e.g. corrosion protection, wear protection or catalysis and decorative plating as for instance chrome plating of tubular furniture and electroplating of plastics. A large number of our customers use metals and metal compounds for producing metal salt catalysts which in turn are used for the production of pharmaceutic intermediates. Another customer segment requires metal pastes (e.g.bismuth compounds) as coating material for technical applications. As a referece we may add that we have supplied a noble metal compound for the coating of all UMTS transmission units.

Nanoparticles - Info

Nanoparticles describe compounds, which have physical dimensions in a billion part of a physical unit (1nm=10-9). This is the range of one up to several thousand atoms or molecules. The physical and chemical properties are therefore slightly and sometimes even significantly different compared to bulk material. That is why new and innovative applications are discovered in different technical areas, as well as in the pharmaceutical sector and biotechnology. Some examples:

  • API-transport in the pharmaceutical- and biotech industry
  • In-vivo and in-vitro-diagnosis
  • Bone-replacement materials (orthopaedic implants)
  • Improvement of the mechanical cohesiveness with so called nano-tubes

Nanoparticles is not a new invention! They can be found in nature, for example in the atmosphere after volcanic eruptions. Synthetic produced nanoparticles have special properties and functions, i.e. electric conductivity, chemical reactivity. Cfm Oskar Tropitzsch GmbH offers the following groups of nanoparticles:

  • Carbon containing nanoparticles
  • Metal oxides (Siliciumdioxide (SiO2), Titandioxide (TiO2), Aluminiumoxide (Al2O3), Ferric oxide
  • Semiconductors (Cadmiumtelluride (CdTe), Cadmiumselenide (CdSe), Silicium))
  • Metals (Gold (Au), Silver (Ag), Ferric (Fe))
