Dr. Johannes Broichhagen
Dr. Johannes Broichhagen has enriched our team since 2022 with his scientific know-how.
He studied chemistry at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and received his diploma “with distinction” in 2010 before continuing his career in chemical biology and obtaining his doctorate in 2014 with “summa cum laude”. First he worked as a postdoc at the EPF Lausanne in Switzerland and later at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg. During this time he developed a keen interest in biological systems and in particular in finding ways to remotely control them with light and visualize proteins in their natural environment.
In 2020 he became a junior group leader at the Leibniz Research Institute for Molecular Pharmacology. With over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals, an impact factor of 23 (as of February 2022), the recipient of numerous awards and grants, and in addition to conducting cutting-edge research within his academy, he now also advises companies in the life sciences including us , Cfm Oskar Tropitzsch.
His core competencies are curating organic synthesis pathways and designing novel small molecule probes (e.g. fluorophores, (photo-)pharmaceuticals, complex (dendritic) ligands and probes for labeling biomolecules, click chemistry, peptidic conjugations), mapping requirements and chemical synthesis options for biological applications (e.g. for bacterial and mammalian cell culture including primary tissue, live cell imaging, tissue and animal specific requirements for in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo studies) and experimental design to elucidate (patho)physiology (e.g. to perform fluorescence microscopy on living cells, label-free imaging, cellular protein transport, in vivo delivery).
