Aspterric acid is a fungal sequeterpenoid(1) plant growth inhibitor discovered using a resistance-gene-directed approach(1). It is an inhibitor of dihydroxy-acid dehydratase (DHAD, IC50=0.31 and 0.5 µM for AteDHAD and AthDHAD respectively), an enzyme in the branched-chain amino acid biosynthetic pathway in plants and is an effective herbicide in spray applications. It has no significant cytotoxicity in human cell lines (up to 500 µM)(2). Inhibits the development of pollen in Arabidopsis thalania.(3) References: 1. Y Tsuda et al. J. Chem. Soc. Chem.
