Bryostatin 1 binds to and activates protein kinase C but its bilogical effects differ greatly from those induced by other protein kinase C activators. Bryostatin 1 fails to mimic many effects caused by PMA and actually blocks fome PMA-induced responses in a variety of cells and tissues.
