Baichanin A; Bonistein; Genisterin; Prunetol; Sophoricol; 4',5,7-Trihydroxyisoflavone
Genistein is an isoflavone with anticancer, antiproliferation, and chemopreventive effects. It induces cell differentiation. Genistein inhibits protein histidine kinase.
Plant: found in soybean (Glycine max) and red clover (Trifolium pratense, Fabaceae)
- Absorbed in food and can be detected in serum of humans and animals
- Leads to accelerated capacitation (maturation process of female sperm cells) of sperm cells in the female genital tract, currently under investigation whether fertility is not reduced by a premature acrosome reaction
- Tumor research: it is being investigated whether the substance or the application of e.g. soy extracts has a positive effect on tumor growth, since genistein inhibits FGF-2-induced angiogenesis due to inhibition of tyrosine kinase, uPA (urokinase) and upregulation of PAI-1
Secondary Plant Ingredients
Secondary metabolites in plants are active plant ingredients, also called phytochemicals.. The demand for Phytochemicals is constantly growing not only for reference substances (for quality tests) , but for high purity ...
