Rapamycin (Sirolimus) is a macrocyclic triene antibiotic. Rapamycin has immunosuppressant and anticancer activity. It forms a complex with FKBP12 that binds to and inhibits the molecular target of rapamycin (mTOR). It is commonly used as immunsuppresiva and in the coating of DES (Drug Eluting Stents). A novel application is the treatment of tuberous sclerosis complex, in special facial angiofibromas. An easy to compound and to apply rapamycin cream shows dramatic improvement of this tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). Cfm Oskar Tropitzsch supplies Rapamycin as GMP/API grade material for the production of the cream. Origin: Streptomyces hygroscopicus subsp hygroscopicus.
