Fisetin and Hesperetin

The flavonoids fisetin and hesperetin have several pharmaceutical effects, like antioxidative and anti-inflammatory. Fisetin is also known for being neuroprotective and a promising agent for Alzheimer-treatment. A recent publication is concentrating on the anti-leukemia property of these two phytochemicals.

Adan A. et al. have investigated the antiproliferative and apoptotic actions on human HL60 acute promyelocytic leukemia cells.

Fisetin and hesperetin treatment are modulating cell proliferation, cell division, apoptosis and altering signaling pathways. They showed a disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential together with increased caspase-3 activity. This publication demonstrates that fisetin and hesperetin, as many other phytochemicals, have anticancer properties.
