Grammicin

Gramicidin is a bactericidal active substanz from the group of polypeptide antibiotics that is used for the topical treatment of bacterial infectious diseases, for example, on the skin, eye, ear or throat. Gramicidin is a mixture of linear polypeptides formed by the soil bacterium Brevibacillus brevis. The effects are based on the formation of an ion channel in the cell membrane of the bacteria, which disturbs the ion balance and leads to cell death. Gramicidin is administered only locally and not systemically due to its hemolytic properties.
