Paclitaxel

Paclitaxel is an antineoplastic or cytotoxic API from the group of taxans. Taxol is classified as a plant alkaloid. In the past it has been derived from Taxus bervifolia. Nowadays it is produced either semi-synthetically or by fermentation. Applciation of Taxol is either chemotherapy or coating of Drug Eluting Stents/Balloon cathethers or other medical devices. Mode of action is the disruption of the microtubuli-network and the inhibition of the mitosis which prohibits cell-division.
